David Bray


Professional background

David graduated with Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University in 1989 and was admitted to practice in the same year. He has completed a Masters in Law at the University Of Western Sydney (2004) majoring in Employment Law.
 
He joined Champion Legal in 1996 following seven years of general legal practice in the ACT and is the Director in charge of the Dispute Resolution and Litigation team.
 
He has appeared in numerous federal and state industrial commissions, tribunals and courts, where he has assisted many clients navigate their way through what can be called the ‘minefield’ of employment law.

 

Current Practice

David manages our Dispute Resolution and Litigation team working with a number of our younger solicitors. He provides advice and assistance mainly in the areas of Employment Law, Insolvency and Commercial Litigation.

 
His recent work has included:
  • Advice and assistance to a company board (400+ employees) on the appointment and employment contract for their incoming Chief Executive Officer;
  • Pursuit of the winding up of companies in the Supreme Court on behalf of a major government department;
  • The handling of the defence of a number of applications to set aside statutory demands on behalf of both government and commercial clients;
  • Resolution at Court assisted mediation of a dispute over a damages claim on behalf of a US-based company in the Supreme Court of Western Australia;
  • Advice to a major importer and distributor of motor vehicles on various employment issues including contract interpretation, harassment policies and deeds of confidentiality;
  • Advice to a national company on the private use of company equipment by employees
