Geoffrey M Roberson


Professional background

Geoffrey has specialised as a Litigation solicitor since his admission to practice in 1973. He is an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Western Sydney. Throughout his career he has practised extensively in primarily the District and Supreme Courts.  In recent years, he has conducted many major litigation matters involving disputes over large industrial equipment, building disputes, partnership disputes and has also acted in a number of significant defamation cases. 
 
In addition to his professional practice Geoffrey has had and continues to have an extensive involvement in the community. He is a former Deputy Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney and currently chairs a number of the University’s commercial entities. He is an experienced Chairman of Boards. He was President of the Law Society of New South Wales in 1989 / 1990 and chaired a number of the Law Society’s committee over a number of years. His involvement in the community has included presidency of the Parramatta City Chamber of Commerce. 
 
As a result of his experiences in boardrooms, Geoffrey is able to provide expert advice on corporate governance and other Corporation Law issues
 
Current Practice
Geoffrey is the Managing Director of Champion Legal and is currently involved in developing the firms succession planning / estate planning and Wills area. 
 

His recent work has included:

  • A major property dispute on behalf of a government authority which was successfully resolved by negotiation;
  • Having a statutory demand set aside on behalf of a client who was in dispute with a tax matter;
  • Acted on behalf of a builder in the conduct of a Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal hearing;
  • Advised a major Sydney university on the potential for some material published on their intranet to be considered defamatory;
  •  Advised on a dispute over damaged property said to be caused by road building;
  • Successfully ran a major Estate Litigation matter for a client where a claim had been made against the estate by a carer. The claim was not accepted and the claimant was required to pay a portion of our client’s fees.
