Julie Shedden


Professional Background

Julie was admitted in 1994 after obtaining her Bachelor of Arts and Law Degree from Macquarie University.  Julie commenced her practice in general law and litigation however since 1998 has practised predominantly in family law and associated areas. 
 
Since focusing on family law and associated areas, Julie has appeared extensively in the Parramatta and Sydney Registries of the Family Court of Australia, Federal Magistrates Court of Australia and related jurisdictions including the Local Court, the District Court and the Supreme Court of NSW.

 

Current Practice

Julie’s practice and expertise comprises all aspects relating to the breakdown of a relationship including parenting, property settlement, injunctions and specific issues matters.  This not only includes representing parties on competing applications before the Court, but also assisting parties reaching an amicable settlement by way of negotiation. Julie’s studies in psychology bring an added dimension to her ability to assist parties in this difficult time. 
 
Julie is familiar with Courts and their procedures and will guide you through the Courts' requirements and keep you informed along the way.  She believes that honesty and communication are the keys to a successful working relationship between client and Lawyer.

 

Her recent work has included:

  • Acting for a party in negotiated property proceedings where there were various third party interests to be considered, addressing the issue of a potential subdivision and the impact of restraint of trade provisions to enable the parties to negotiate a fair and equitable distribution of the available property pool. 
  • Acting for a party to extend a current order permitting residence with a child in an overseas jurisdiction.
  • Acting for a party in contested property proceedings where there are competing special needs: being one party’s health as against the other party’s care of a minor child. 
  • Acting for a party in contested property proceedings where the valuation of properties in a foreign jurisdiction needed to be obtained and properly presented. 
  • Acting for a party in contested parenting proceedings where our client successfully applied to relocate with the children to the Act.
