Professional background
Neil has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws and was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales in 1980 and as a solicitor of the High Court in the same year.
After admission as a solicitor Neil worked in London for a year as a Lawyer and has practiced exclusively in Family Law since his return to Australia in 1980. He has represented husbands wives and children. He has particular expertise in negotiating settlements in complex property matters. He is an experienced Advocate.
Neil is an accredited specialist in Family Law and is also a consultant and assessor in the Family Law Program with the College of Law.
He serves as a member of the Family Court Liaison Committee, meeting regularly with Family Court judges and registrars. He also assists the Specialist Accreditation Board as a member of the advisory committee (Family Law).
Current Practice
Neil heads up our very experienced Family Law practice group. He is developing our Sydney Family Law practice whilst continuing to represent a range of clients primarily in property disputes.
His recent work has included:
- Acting for a Proprietary company served with a subpoena and successfully applying to have substantial parts of the subpoena struck out, or redrafted with specificity and obtaining substantial costs of compliance.
- Acting for a party to a marriage in property proceedings, and successfully making an application that the Solicitor for the other party not be permitted to act for that party in the proceedings.
- Acting for the Directors and Shareholders of a proprietary company and assisting to protect the interests of the company in circumstances where a fellow director and spouse were in dispute before the Family Court and a substantial portion of their asset pool consisted of shares in the company.
- Acting for a party to property proceedings for the division of the parties farming property in circumstances where the property was the subject of possible rezoning and purchase by developers.
