Susana Staka


Professional background

Susana completed her BA LLB at Macquarie University in 1989 and has worked exclusively in Family law during her legal career.

She is an accredited Family law specialist and she has also completed mediation and collaborative law training.
Susana is a member of a number of organisations including;
  • Women lawyers association
  • Western Sydney collaborative family lawyers
  • International Collaborative lawyers
  • Panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers

Susana is also a member of the Law Society's Family Law Issues Committee.

Susana’s experience and expertise in family law is extensive and includes cases involving:

  • All aspects of parenting matters
  • Complex property issues involving tax, valuation and company issues (in both matrimonial and Property Relationship disputes)
Susana has a particular interest in representing children in family law disputes and often appears on behalf of children in proceedings.
 
Susana is also very interested in alternate dispute resolution processes in family law matters and can advise clients in all areas of dispute resolution before commencing legal proceedings.
 

Susana represents her clients with strength, enthusiasm and a strong focus on helping them achieve the outcomes they require.

 

Current Practice

Her recent work has included: 

  • Acting for a party in property settlement proceedings and obtaining injunctions the effect of which preserved the marital property pending final hearing.
  • Successfully applying the court process to discover and ascertain undisclosed financial resources in the name of the other party.
  • Acting for a father in contested parenting proceedings and successfully negotiating an agreement whereby the two young children of the marriage spend equal time with both parents
  • Acting on behalf of a third party and successfully opposing the making of Orders sought by one of the parties to the marriage which affected the rights of the third party.
  •  Successfully opposing the hearing of a Bankruptcy application by a third party creditor against a party to a marriage during property proceedings listed in the Family Court.
  •  Advising and acting on behalf of clients located in overseas jurisdictions.
