Succession Planning

Many of our clients are what we sometimes refer to as ‘Founder-Owners-Managers’ of their companies. In other words they are the people who have started, developed and are still running the business. Planning ahead for the day they want to move on is an important issue that should be addressed sooner rather than later. There are many options that must be carefully considered and we have the experience to help.

Some of these options include:
  • Pass the business on to the next generation by way of sale or share transfer
  • Sell the business as a going concern to an external party
  • Sell the business to the existing managers or employees (usually called a management buy-out)
  • Sell or merge the business with a competitor
  • Close the doors and sell the business assets
  • Sell the business or part of the business through a public float (called an initial public offering or IPO)
When you are considering these and other options you need the best advice. Even if you are a few years away from any proposed sale, listing or handover, a good plan will increase the return you make. At Champion Legal we can assist you with all legal aspects associated with Succession Planning and we can help with the often complex management and financial issues that will arise.
